Sara Jefferson

Sara is a doula and member of the Board of Directors for Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas, a non-profit organization that provides trained and compassionate bereavement doulas and photographers to support parents who are experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, or a life-limiting diagnosis. They provide emotional, physical, and informational support during the process of giving birth, and then work together with hospital staff to help parents honor their baby’s existence and make their time together meaningful. They help parents find the support and resources they need afterwards to grieve. The loss of a baby affects the whole family, and Sara strives to make sure that siblings and grandparents are supported. Guiding parents through the process of talking to older siblings about what happened and preparing them to meet their baby brother or sister has become a particular interest to her. Sara is passionate about setting parents on a path to healthy grieving by providing quality bereavement care right at the time of loss and also during the long road ahead after leaving the hospital.
