Practice Interests

Maternal Newborn Nurse Expert, Breastfeeding Counselor, Case Manager and Health Advocate, Cynthia Sparks, is on a mission to provide first time moms with a nurse partner early in pregnancy and up to 24 months of infant life.

Cynthia’s aim is to provide nurse-driven community based and in-home support to families in combination with other multidisciplinary team members (i.e.; OB/GYN, Midwives, Doula’s, Child Birth Educators, Lactation Specialists and Social Workers), specifically in Baltimore County, MD. In support this effort, “Nurse Cynthia,” as she is affectionately known, founded Mainline Maternity Care, LLC, at the request of patients, clients and families under her care.

Cynthia graduated from the Inaugural Nursing Class of Harcum College, located in Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania in 2005 and from graduation until this day, Cynthia continues to add value to each client contact through additional education obtained through certifications received throughout her career. While working in Pennsylvania, Cynthia also received facility-based training on providing Childbirth Education through (ICEA), Mindfulness Options (Massage/Reike/Aromatherapy) and Bereavement Support through RTS (Resolve Through Sharing).

This combination of specialized services and lived experiences has allowed Cynthia to provide a unique level of services to clients during the height of COVID while traveling throughout the USA, at the bedside, in communities and in the homes of those in need. Upon relocating back to Maryland, Cynthia quickly realized the level of nursing care she provided, morphed from traditional evidence-based medicine into an approach that was inclusive of holistic practices and focused on mind, body and spiritual support during pregnancy, post-delivery and early childhood development stages. A practice that can impact negative outcomes related to disparities and preventable Maternal-Infant Morbidity and Mortality rates in Maryland.

Under the direction of Nurse Cynthia, Mainline Maternity Care began working with The Judy Center’s Featherbed Lane School, facilitated by Ayn Ford in June of 2024, offering nurse-led evidenced based education sessions supporting Maternal-Mental Health and, in November of 2024 we obtained the support of The National Service Office for Nurse-Family Partnership and Child First (NSO), to bring a new NFP implementation project to Baltimore County, MD.

Cynthia has proven to be an important influence for families navigating difficult pregnancies, transitioning from hospital to home with High Risk & NICU graduates as well as helping those experiencing Maternal Mental Health challenges with evidenced based education through Self-Love and Parent Empowerment Practices. Through the implementation of Mainline Maternity Care, Cynthia will utilize this platform to reach more families while displaying a positive and successful image to raise awareness on important Maternal Health Issues.

In an attempt to uplift communities across Baltimore County Maryland, Cynthia founded “The Mainline Maternity Community Collective”, in January 2025, a network of like-minded health professionals, parents and providers interested in influencing change and creating a culture of Champions as Women Business Owners supporting one another in business as we collectively support women in pregnancy from birth and beyond, one pregnancy at a time.

Cynthia, continues to reside in Baltimore County Maryland and is the proud mother of 2 adult children (Keona & Calvin) grandmother to grandson (Nyair), doggy mom for American Staffordshire Terrier Twins (Blu & Ivy), and grand-puppy-parent to (Mona Lisa).

Patient Reviews

"It is with the deepest gratitude and highest regard that I share my testimony about Cynthia Sparks. From the moment she became involved in my daughter’s care, she demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, compassion, and intentionality that far exceeded our expectations. Every conversation with Cynthia had purpose. Early on, she asked if there was anything she should know about my daughter. I shared, on a simple note card, that my daughter experiences a higher-than-normal level of anxiety. Cynthia not only listened—she prepared. She arrived at labor and delivery with calming elements, including candles and stress-relief tools, creating an environment that immediately put my daughter at ease. During my daughter’s 40-hour labor, Cynthia’s dedication was nothing short of extraordinary. She remained present and attentive throughout—never stepping away, never appearing fatigued, and never compromising the level of care she provided. While encouraging our family to rest, she stayed by my daughter’s side, supporting her through the most difficult moments with calm, strength, and reassurance. Her professionalism is unmatched. In situations that required advocacy, she handled matters with composure and discretion, ensuring my daughter’s care environment remained respectful, supportive, and aligned with the highest standards. Immediately following delivery, Cynthia guided my daughter through expressing her baby’s first and most important nourishment—colostrum—reinforcing the principle that health is truly wealth. What has been most remarkable is witnessing the transformation in my daughter’s breastfeeding journey. Something she initially did not want to do has now become one of her most cherished bonding experiences with her baby—an outcome that speaks directly to Cynthia’s guidance, encouragement, and expertise. It has been a joy to witness the bond not only between mother and child, but also the trust and connection formed with Cynthia along the way. Cynthia’s expertise as a Maternal Newborn Nurse Expert, Breastfeeding Counselor, Case Manager, and Health Advocate is evident in every interaction. However, what truly sets her apart is her unwavering presence and her ability to connect on a deeply human level. She does not simply provide care—she partners with families, empowers mothers, and delivers a level of support that extends far beyond expectations."

I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for Cynthia. From the very beginning, she went above and beyond in every possible way. She was patient, caring, loving, and incredibly supportive throughout my entire journey. Her knowledge and guidance made such a difference. She always took the time to explain things in a way that made me feel informed and confident. What truly stood out was how comfortable and safe she made me feel. I was able to be completely open with her, and she met me with nothing but understanding and encouragement. During my labor, she stayed by my side for 72 hours straight, making sure I had the best care and support every step of the way. That level of dedication is something I will never forget. She is also incredibly knowledgeable about breastfeeding and took the time to walk me through its importance in a way that truly resonated with me. I originally planned to only pump and supplement with formula, but after hearing her out and following her guidance, I completely changed my approach. Now I breastfeed and latch my baby, and I love it! I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. A month later, I’m still doing well with my milk supply, and I truly credit her for that. I also learned that many women face challenges with breastfeeding or stop early, often because they don’t receive the proper guidance and support therefore, having Cynthia made all the difference for me. The techniques and preparation we worked on before labor were so valuable. When the time came, I felt ready in a way I wouldn’t have without her. Even now, she continues to answer any questions I have at any time, even when she doesn’t have to. That kind of care and dedication shows she is truly not in this for the money, but because she genuinely cares. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without Cynthia, she made such a powerful impact on my experience, and I will always be thankful for her. I could write a book about how PERFECT Cynthia services exceeded my expectations lol, but I’m going to leave it here. I can’t thank you enough!

Wowww, I don’t know where to start…. As a partner, I don’t think there are enough words to fully express how grateful I am for Cynthia and the impact she had on our experience. From the very beginning, she went above and beyond in every possible way. She was patient, caring, and incredibly supportive, not just to my girlfriend, but to both of us throughout the entire journey. What stood out to me the most was how comfortable and safe she made my girlfriend feel. She created an environment where she could be open, vulnerable, and confident all at the same time. During labor, Cynthia stayed by her side for 72+ hours straight, making sure she had the best care and support every step of the way. Watching that level of dedication meant everything to me. Cynthia is also extremely knowledgeable about breastfeeding, and I truly saw the impact of that firsthand. My girlfriend originally planned to only pump and supplement with formula, but after Cynthia took the time to educate and guide her, she completely changed her approach. Now she breastfeeds and latches our baby, and she genuinely loves it and so do I.  The preparation and techniques she taught before labor were invaluable. When the time came, my girlfriend was ready in a way she wouldn’t have been otherwise. My girlfriend vaginally pushed out our lovely baby girl in 22mins. This is our first kid and she took the pain and experience like a solider.  AGAIN, I don’t believe that my girlfriend labor would have been as seamless if it wasn’t for educated/caring Cynthia. Even now, Cynthia continues to answer questions and offer support whenever needed, which speaks volumes about the kind of person she is. It’s clear she truly cares about the families she works with. I honestly don’t know what we would have done without Cynthia. She exceeded every expectation and played such a huge role in making this experience a positive one. I would highly recommend her services!

Cynthia was an Angel sent to me and my Girlfriend, my girlfriend and I were blessed with identical twin boys, so you can imagine the anxiety my girlfriend was experiencing, Cynthia was quick to take over and calmed her down, her experience as a Maternity nurse, was so beneficial, we had many unsettling moments during this pregnancy, having identical twins , means they are in the same sack, so my girlfriend was handed over to a specialist, we met every Wednesday for the whole pregnancy, well a little of my background, I am a Corrections Officer Police in New Jersey, I work second shift 2 to 10 pm, and I was always working, so Wednesday's was rough on us, well Cynthia made herself available to assist us, this was a huge deal, not only was she there physically, but she assisted with the mental aspect of this pregnancy. Cynthia is a consummate professional, she was available to us to answer questions, give suggestions, and give us evidence based instructions. This pregnancy scared us both, my girlfriend was spotting a lot, we thought on many occasions she was going to deliver early, at least 4 or 5 times, I was called to come home for an emergency, because she was bleeding, well Cynthia was at the hospital before I arrived, to calm my girlfriend down, so when I did arrive, they were laughing, so her calm demeanor, and professionalism was shining bright. My boys were something else, they stayed in my girlfriend's stomach for 38 weeks, my boy's were ready to come out, pointing downward , but they decided to turn sideways on top of each other, so the pain my girlfriend experienced was excruciating, and she had to make a decision, let the doctor go in and turn the boys to be delivered, or opt for a C section, you talk about a stressful decision, my girlfriend opted for a c section, Cynthia educated us on the procedure, and the aftermath. During the birth of the boys, Cynthia was actually there, for support, and to assist my girlfriend with the twins, my girlfriend chose not to breastfeed, so Cynthia educated her on feeding our boys with formula. My girlfriend was acting a little strange after the birth of the boys, not right away, but a month or so, of course I was clueless, my girlfriend was actually experiencing post partum depression, Cynthia was the one who detected this condition, Cynthia was instrumental in helping my girlfriend pull through this, we can never repay her for her knowledge and professionalism, and the way she actually cares for her clients. If you want a Maternity Nurse, who is selfless, knowledgeable, professional, Cynthia is your nurse, we would give her a 10 out of 10 each time.
Cynthia was an excellent Nurse for my newborn and a wonderful support to me while navigating motherhood. She taught me how to care for my baby and answered all of my new mom questions. She listened as I was also navigating the death of my mother. Cynthia is reliable, professional, warm and has a wealth of knowledge and experience to help .
